Visible Mending on Khakis with Heart Patch

A patch I made for a pair of khaki pants I own. Instead of using a patch underneath, I worked directly over the rip with thick embroidery floss. This wasn’t planned as a decorative project, but the structural repair needed to be secure. I stabilized the tear with horizontal anchor threads.

First I did a series of spaced stitches to strengthen the overall fabric around the hole, then I patched the hole directly with red thread. The results looked a little like a heart, so I made a heart in green thread and filled it out while practicing a woven stitch in the middle.
